What is Geothermal?

Utilizing highly efficient renewable energy technology, these systems take advantage of the sun’s solar energy stored in the earth just below your home.

A geothermal heat pump system consists of a heat pump, an air delivery system (ductwork), and a heat exchanger-a system of pipes buried in the shallow ground under your home. The system can be installed in both new construction and retrofit for older homes.

How does it work?

Geothermal heating and cooling systems use solar energy found in your backyard, just beneath the earth’s surface, where the temperature remains consistent between 50° and 60°. Utilizing a series of pipes installed underground, this system taps into the sun’s energy to heat and cool your home.

The most impressive feature is the level of comfort it provides. Geothermal operates for longer periods at lower speeds creating a comfortable home year-round.

Installation Options

There are a variety of installation designs for all homes even if you have limited land. The installation designs are called Loops and include horizontal, vertical, pond/lake or well water. While the type of geothermal system that’s right for you depends on factors including groundwater availability, conditions of the soil and how much rock surrounds the structure, closed-loop systems are the most common. A water source is essential for an open loop system.

Below are the four designs:

  • Horizontal Loop – This design requires more space.
  • Well-Water Loop – Extremely cost-effective for those with a supply of well water.

  • Vertical Loop – This option is best when land is limited.

  • Pond/Lake Loop – Cost-effective for those with a pond/lake close to your home.

Our AC went out the night before H.S. graduation. Hosting family, etc. the next day, it could not have been a worse time. I called Allgeier Air and they were very friendly & professional. They worked me in their schedule and had my AC working by mid-afternoon. Ronny (service tech) was honest and professional. He correctly diagnosed the problem and had us up and running on the same trip. I would highly recommend Allgeier Air for professional, upfront and honest service. Thank you Allgeier Air!
